Hello Friends and Family - Welcome to My Personal Fundraising Page
Hello Friends and Family,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. On October 13th, I will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities at the 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon!
At my first training run I met Jesse. Jesse noticed that I was running for RMHC by my running shirt and shared her story with me. Please take a few minutes and read Jesse’s story and if you can, please consider making a donation to this wonderful charity.
My son was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital on July 1, 2014 with an APGAR score of 0 - meaning he wasn't breathing, had no heartbeat, etc. He was resuscitated immediately and then put into a crazy infant apparatus to be transported via ambulance to Lurie Children's Hospital...where he underwent multiple tests to try and determine if there was any lasting impacts of the trauma he faced at birth. While at Lurie, he had another seizure which required him to be resuscitated a 2nd time.
It's hard to adequately describe the emotions we felt during his first few days of his life: pain, heartbreak, fear, concern, confusion are just a few. It was impossible to think about anything we might need when we had a baby that was barely holding on. Thankfully, the amazing staff at Lurie took it upon themselves to contact the RMHC and discovered there was an open room. Although we do not live far from Lurie, there is absolutely no way we would have risked a 25 minute drive home to take a shower or a nap. But with this accommodation, we were able to take a few minutes to rest our heads and take a shower knowing we were only a few floors away from our son. We were also welcomed with food and snacks at various points of the day.
I cannot adequately describe how wonderful this support was in a time of such stress and worry. When your child is sick, it is so hard to think about your own needs and impossible to think about being away from your child. The RMHC provides a tremendous support for families so that they can have the energy to continue supporting their child during their time of need.
I am so happy to hear you are running for this organization. All the best with your fundraising initiatives and with the marathon training.
