Team RMHC - Dan Barford - My First Marathon!
On October 10th, I will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) at the 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon! As a member of Team RMHC, I will be training, fundraising and ultimately running 26.2 miles to help keep families together.
This will be my first full marathon. After dozens of half-marathon races, I always believed that the half-marathon distance was "my race." Last year, I committed to running a full marathon and had to put those plans on pause due to COVID. When the opportunity to run the Chicago Marathon came up, I jumped on the chance and am so proud to be part of the RMHC team. I know so many people who can call the Chicago Marathon "their first marathon" and I'm looking forward to being in that same category. You can follow my instagram @danisrunningamarathon on my journey to train for this race.
Thirteen years ago, our premature triplets were born too soon. One did not survive and the other two (who just turned 13 years old) spent over 4 months in the NICU at Good Samaritan Hospital and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Fortunately for us, we lived close enough to be with our babies until we could bring them home. But we met so many other parents who didn’t have that luxury because they lived too far away or were from other parts of the country. We saw the impact that the Ronald McDonald House (Cincinnati) had on those families. It provided parents with a place to stay so they could be with their child when they needed them the most. That is why I am proud to run with Team RMHC for the 2021 Chicago Marathon.
Did you know RMHC helps millions of families each year? RMHC helps families cope better and focus on the needs of their sick child, allowing them the ability to spend more time with their child, to interact with their doctors, and to make important decisions about their child’s care.
It costs approximately $100 to give a family one night of comfort and support. Your donation, of any amount, will not only help me achieve my goal, but will help children stay close to their families when they need it most!
