My Reason Why!
On October 13th, I will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon! As a member of Team RMHC, I will be training, fundraising and ultimately running 26.2 miles to help keep families together.
In 2013, my little cousin Amber was in a horrific accident just three days after graduating from high school. She was left with a collapsed lung and a traumatic brain injury. In the blink of an eye, her world was shattered. She was on her way to college at LSU, but all of that was shattered in an instant. She was transferred from Shreveport, Louisiana to Dallas, Texas to start rehab once she was out of danger. At the tender age of 17, Amber had to learn to walk and talk all over again.
Ronald McDonald House Charites provided a place for my cousin and her mom to stay while she was away from home, keeping her family close. I am incredibly grateful for this charity and all that they do! Thanks to their support, my cousin has grown up to be a beautiful, healthy and ambitious young woman. She graduated from The University of North Texas in December 2017, and is currently the Digital Communication Coordinator for the City of McKinney Texas. I thank God everyday for her full recovery!
Did you know RMHC helps millions of families each year? RMHC helps families cope better and focus on the needs of their sick child, allowing them the ability to spend more time with their child, to interact with their doctors, and to make important decisions about their child’s care.
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Ronald McDonald Charities for all the incredible work they do. I am running to raise awareness and support for all those who have been impacted by RMHC, but Amber and her mom LaShona are my reason why!
