Elizabeth Osmanski's Marathon for Ronald McDonald House Charities
On October 8th, I will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) at the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon! This will be my first ever full marathon.
When I decided to run for a charity, it was a no brainer for me to choose the Ronald McDonald House.
I was first introduced to RMHC as my sorority's philanthropy during my freshman year of college. I learned firsthand from the families about the challenges of having a sick child who needs treatment far from home. They face the intense emotional and financial burden of medical bills, travel costs, and hotel stays. But at a Ronald McDonald House, families can stay together, rest and recharge to remain strong for their child, interact with families going through similar experiences, and enjoy home-cooked meals with help from compassionate staff and volunteers — all just minutes from the hospital where their child is receiving care. This gives the patients and their families critical stabilitity when they need it most.
After participating in group fundraising events, I continued to spend time at our local RMHC as an individual team volunteer and meal helper throughout college. After graduation, I sadly moved away from the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington, Kentucky. Luckily, once arriving in Chicago, I found my way back to the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Every time I go in for a shift at the house, I'm inspired by the strength and resilience of the families and their little kids battling big circumstances. I'm honored to support this incredible organization that has grown close to my heart.
It costs approximately $100 to give a family one night of comfort and support. Your donation, of any amount, will not only help me achieve my goal, but will help children stay close to their families when they need it most.
I greatly appreciate any and all support! Thank you all so much!
