Patrick runs with Ronald McDonald
At the ripe age of 22, which was 22 years ago, I was signed up for the Chicago Marathon. For many reasons I never ran it. That's haunted me ever since, and the Chicago Marathon holds the status of being my great white buffalo.
Between then and now some things have changed in life, as they tends to. I stopped running for years, instead expending my energy with cycling and adventure racing. But this past year, I've found myself in a running club, Measly Mile Mafia, running every day! I thirst for the glory of that finish line. There are worst hobbies to have. ha.
I figure if I'm going to be running anyway, why shouldn't I do it for a purpose.
On October 13th, I will be representing Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon! As a member of Team RMHC, I will be training, fundraising and ultimately running 26.2 miles to help keep families together during some of the roughest times a family can experience together - sickness.
RMHC helps families cope better and focus on the needs of their sick child, allowing them the ability to spend more time with their child, to interact with their doctors, and to make important decisions about their child’s care. And there is a house right here in Kansas City!
It costs approximately $100 to give a family one night of comfort and support. Your donation, of any amount, will not only help me achieve my goal, but more importantly will help families stay close to their children when they need it most!
I can run anytime, with or without an official marathon - but being able to bring attention to a pretty special organization - that truly makes running around a city for 4 hours, pretty worthwhile.
