On October 13th, Debbie and I will be proudly representing Ronald McDonald House Charities at the 2024 Chicago Marathon. Imagine if every step we took could bring a family closer together—this is our goal as we run 26.2 miles for Team RMHC.

Our youngest child, Kaylie, was born prematurely and had to spend the first 7 weeks of her life in the NICU.  I can say from experience that it is absolutely devastating to go home and leave your newborn baby in the hospital. The fact that we lived 1.5 hours away and the NICU only had a small family room available, with no options close by for overnight stays for families, made matters worse. We had a 1 and 2 year old at home while Kaylie was in the NICU, so between the long drive, lack of places to stay and no space for our kids at the hospital, our visits were too infrequent and short. The guilt of not being able to see our daughter daily and feelings of helplessness were indescribable. We were so grateful for the care she received, but it was difficult to not be a part of her daily care. Those were 7 of the hardest weeks of our lives both mentally and emotionally and I would have given anything to have been able to have access to a place like Ronald McDonald House during that time.  

I have seen firsthand the positive impact that Ronald McDonald House Charities has on families. My nephew was born with severe disabilities and during his frequent hospital stays, Ronald McDonald House was an incredible source of comfort and support for my brother and sister-in-law.   Having a place to call "home" where you feel welcome and are able to keep your family together while being able to get to the hospital at a moment's notice is absolutely priceless.  

I could not be more proud to honor my nephew's memory by representing RMHC at the Chicago Marathon and I ask that you help me reach my goal. Every dollar you generously donate, no matter the amount, will directly impact families in need. It takes approximately $100 per night to provide a place for families to stay and the comfort of being by your child.  I take pride in the fact that between Debbie and I we will raise enough money to provide over one month of nights for families to be close to their children in some of the most difficult and stressful times they may be going through.
