I hope you were able to watch the Women’s and Men’s Olympic Marathons this past weekend and were inspired by what you saw—realizing that just like each of them, each of you either ARE or soon WILL BE a “marathoner.”
Okay, so for us it isn’t about setting Olympic or World Records… rather, it’s about meeting the challenge of achieving something we may never have dreamed possible.
It's about hope. And courage.
It's about measuring the endurance that’s in us today, and discovering the strength that’s possible tomorrow.
And owning that strength is what each of us will do on October 10.
NIKE captured that sentiment best in its “Find Your Greatness” campaign from a couple of years ago—sharing the notion that, "Greatness is not in one special place, and it's not in one special person. Greatness is wherever somebody is trying to find it."
As you continue your marathon training, my wish for each of you is to have faith that the greatness you are looking for WILL be inside of you, as you stand at the “START” on Marathon Day.
At this point, as we begin the second half of this year’s marathon training season, I simply encourage you to do all you can, the best you can… on every remaining training run, and throughout every remaining training week—which is all any of us can do.
And to carry in your heart these words from Winston Churchill, "Never, never, never, never give up."
(Thank you, Sir Winston.)
Have a (really) good training week ahead, as you to discover all the greatness you’re capable of achieving.
And thank you, for ALL that you are doing to train and run and fundraise to support the children and families served by Ronald McDonald House Charities!
Train safe. Run strong.
